Sirhan Sirhan wants to leave Jail Jail

Or is it Prison Prison?

From the halls of justice comes the news that Sirhan Sirhan, better known to you as the guy who shot Robert Kennedy, is seeking his release. Why? Because he says he didn’t actually shoot RFK, he merely acted as a diversion. And not only did he merely act as a diversion, his attorneys claim he “was hypno-programmed to be a diversion for the real assassin.”

The ’60s, man. What a crazy time to be hypno-programmed. In any event, his court papers make the claim that the state:

refuses to acknowledge that hypno programming/mind control is not fiction but reality and has been used for years by the U.S. military, Central Intelligence Agency and other covert organizations.

Though the practices of hypno programming/mind control is hardly new, the public has been shielded from the darker side of the practice. The average person is unaware that hypnosis can and is used to induct antisocial conduct in humans.

Aren’t we past the whole “CIA mind control conspiracy theories” thing as a country? I guess not. The next part is more dubious. Checkit:

For decades following the 1968 assassination, Sirhan had claimed he could not remember the Kennedy shooting. Pepper and Dusek argue this is because he was “hypno-programmed” to fire his gun in the pantry and to then forget the shooting, his programming and those who had programmed him.

In 2008, Pepper hired a Harvard University memory expert who says he got the imprisoned Sirhan to recall the Kennedy shooting for the first time.

That expert is Daniel Brown, an associate clinical professor in psychology at Harvard Medical School who submitted a statement to the parole board after interviewing Sirhan for 60 hours over a three-year period. Brown says Sirhan now remembers that when he fired his shots in the pantry he believed he was at a gun range and shooting at circular targets, according to Pepper.

Brown believes Sirhan was programmed to do this so as to cause a distraction in the pantry, allowing a second gunman to secretly shoot Kennedy from behind, according to Sirhan’s attorneys. Brown is described in Sirhan’s court papers as “one of the world’s foremost experts in hypno programming.”

WHY WOULDN’T THEY JUST PROGRAM HIM TO KILL RFK? What the hell? If you can control someone’s mind so completely, wouldn’t you want to you know, do the whole “killing a major public figure” thing rather than just creating a distraction? I mean, if he’s going to be firing his gun off in a kitchen anyway, might as well have him aim at something.

Beyond that, who are the people who hypno-programmed him? Does he just have no recollection of who he was hanging around with at the time? You kinda don’t get to do the whole “I was brainwashed” and “There were actually 13 gunshots and my gun held 8 bullets” move, the latter of which you know, might make sense, if you also don’t have any sort of idea who is responsible for any of this.

So, um, Sirhan Sirhan’s lawyer, do you know who really did kill RFK?

I believe I have it but I’m not going to deal with it at this time.

Thanks so much! You’re the best!

I have a few questions about today’s timely blog.

Isn’t “hypno-programming” a redundant phrase, coined possibly to give the programing inherent in hypnosis more political cache?

Isn’t “with 20 years of malice aforethought,” also overkill, if not actually redundant, with 20 years being an awful lot of “afore” to the thought?

Lastly, would our intrepid blogger be able to find out (perhaps aided by his current proximity to Hollywood) if in fact the lawyers Pepper and Dusek moonlighted at an earlier point as writers for a beloved television show of this commenter’s youth, “Get Smart”? The inanity of their defense strategy smacks sharply of Maxwell Smart…
